Weekend in Review

Howdy y'all! This post should have gone up on Monday, but I'm having quite the time getting my rear in gear. These are some things I saw last weekend. Hope you enjoy!

Port Allen, LA⎯Friday, Nov 7th
"Friday Night Lights" with my friend, Bridget. We (she) drove across the river to Port Allen where we watched tugboats
and ships go by. B taught me a few tricks I didn't know and I think it has reignited my love for photography.
The State Capitol is on the left. I kept seven photos out of 103, so I might post a few more at a later date.
 Capitol Lakes⎯Saturday, Nov 8th
American Coot.
Out of 200+ shots, I kept this one and the one below. I have gotten very cut-throat on what I toss and what I keep.
A little fall color, finally.
 Madisonville, LA⎯Sunday, Nov 9th
Brown Pelican, Louisiana State Bird

I first shot this couple surreptitiously from the back. Ha! Then I got the nerve to ask permission.

They were so cool about me shooting them. The girl reminded me of my good friend, Jo, from high school.
The vocals and guitar work were really good.
 Mandeville, LA⎯Sunday, Nov 9th
Small beach on Lake Pontchartrain at Fountainebleau State Park.
Debbie from It's All About Purple inspired me to take some timed couple shots!
I hope to post again on Friday to get back into my Monday, Wednesday, Friday routine.

Double D's Big Day

For those of you new to this blog, Double D is the nickname of my husband. His birthday was on May 6th, and since we moved to Baton Rouge he always wants to celebrate it in the French Quarter. Seeing him so happy makes my day. All images were taken with the iPhone.
Usually we make a beeline for Pat O'Brien's but since we parked so close to the river, I asked him to pose for me in front of the bridge. Actually, his first stop was to buy a hat. It took me a while to get used to this new look, but now I like it!

Two men asked if they could take our picture together. At first I was hesitant because 1) I hate to have my picture taken, and 2) I was afraid he'd just run off with my phone, but Double D said 'yes!' before I could think. All went well, thank goodness!

In front of St. Louis Cathedral.
My entry for Good Fences.

Every year he has to pose in front of the Pat O'Brien statue after he gets his hurricane.

Next stop is the bar "Famous Door". The cigarette smoke was killing me, so I made several trips outside gasping for air.

Ooops... Famous Doo.
The music was fantastic! Double D requested Born On The Bayou by CCR and we sang along as loud as we could. Fun!

This bar has been in business since 1935, so I'm surprised more letters aren't missing.
If only my birthday could have been as much fun. I suffered with nausea the first half of the day and windy, cold conditions the second half (when I began to feel better). Celebrating on Saturday (I hope!).

Double D

Look what I found in my Flickr archives! Someone favorited a photo from my stream recently and since I hadn't been to the site in ages, I thought I should go poke around. This photo is not very good, but this HAD to go on my blog for obvious reasons. I had only been shooting with the Canon Rebel for about a year when I took this. I couldn't wait to show Double D (my husband) what I had found. During a further search of my photos on Flickr, I was astonished at the number of images I took in the early days that had fences in them; most of them in Texas. Yee doggies!

In 2009, my daughter, our friend Jay, and I traveled to Ennis, Texas to see the bluebonnets. I have a few more bluebonnet shots that include fences, so more to come! Please check out the lovely fences at Tex's Good Fences meme.
