Impatiently Waiting for Fall

Many of you have had your glorious fall and are bracing for winter. Here in the south time moves a little slower and I guess that includes autumn. Here are more drive-bys and a quick stop on Hoo Shoo Too Road in rural Baton Rouge. All photos taken Oct 23, 2013.
Along Jones Creek Rd. in Baton Rouge

Another look at the common buckeye - Jones Creek Rd.
I desaturated the green because it seemed distracting and I rather liked how it turned out.

Hoping to see some fall color was a disappointment. By this time last year the trees on Hoo Shoo Too Road were bursting with deep oranges and vibrant yellows. I'm starting to wonder if we're going to see any color at all this year. :/
Anhinga stationed on his regular perch. It does appear there is color here, but the photo
has been cropped and just this small area had some hints of fall; all else is green.

Still green as ever.

Pretty, but I want the beautiful orange colors I know these bald cedars are capable of producing.

A tiny bit of red. Taken from across the lake several hundred yards away, so I had to crop.

Sharing with Our World Tuesday.

We definitely have a lot of green still, but riding down I-10 there are signs of changing colors. Brace yourself though...the temps are suppose to dip down in the 30's tonight! LOVE your photos...come visit me @ my new home http://www.mylouisianalife.com/

Wow, you do have a lot of green remaining. We had some good color, but also lots of brown-to-ground. I'm not complaining. Good choice for the Buckeye photo. Makes him pop.

Oh my....that last one you cropped would make a beautiful work in oil paints!!! Yep, we here in the far South don't get much Fall...or winter, but we do slowly.

Great images.

AND!!! I love the name of that road....Hoo Shoo Too?!!! Do you know the background on how it got named such?

We have a bit of color change (good for this part of So Cal!) but the temps are still nice....cool in the evenings (light jacket) 70's in the day! Perfect!!!

Beautiful shots Gail. Those flowers are a welcome sight, we had our first snowfall last night.

You have the most magnificent camera!! AND an eye to know what to shoot. What a shot of the anhinga sitting on the tree branch. Lovely colors in the background!! Interesting how you caught the shadows and reflections on the lake. Always such a nice job!!

Oh Gail, thank you for your niceness and care for Baby Z. He has to stay at home for this week and if he gets a bit sick, he has to return to the hospital. But he is HOME. oh wonderful.

That first photo of the flowers is NOT a photo, it isn't. It looks so real, so like you could reach out and touch it. awh ~

with the hard freeze we are expecting tonight (29F), the green should turn quickly - or die off and fall, probably more like it.

i like that anhinga!

We had a lot of wind the past couple of days, which blew the leaves off the trees and left things kind of desolate.

I love the shot of that bird.

Beautiful post, Gail!

Of course, here in central Florida, we only have two seasons: green and brown. :)

I'm right there with ya...palm trees and live oaks don't make for much color. Even the pear trees haven't changed yet? I'm going to have to find my fall color in the sunrise in the mornings. That Buckeye is gorgeous!

You may not be seeing as much colour as you would like, but I think these pictures are gorgeous. The Butterfly is very pretty and the reflections are stunning.

Beautiful there even if it isn't quite Autumn yet. (Down south of you here we don't have much Fall at all, as you know).

The Anhinga photo is beautiful. The soft colors in the background really set it off. And the butterfly really pops off the page with the desaturation of the green.

Beautiful! All of this stuff is long gone here. I just read that we had our worst year for color in 25 years. I got almost no fall color shots this year. Most of the leaves turned brown and fell off.

Call me crazy, but I love that moss stuff that hangs from the trees in LA. I've heard that it has lots of insects in it, but I think it is so cool....Only today, have we seen a touch of Winter. By tomorrow morning, the heavy frost that we are expecting will soon turn everything BROWN...
love the photos...

You sound just like I did 6 or 7 weeks ago....now Fall is about over, especially since we had a dusting of snow last night. Love that common buckeye butterfly, such beautiful markings.

Your color will get there before you know it. I waited too and we finally had color but only for a few days before winds and rain took it all away and today we had snow on the ground. Enjoy the color - green or autumn - as long as you can.
Love the butterfly and that shot of 'still green' - both are LOVELY!

Great shots! Love the one of that common buckeye. Fall has already came and went around here, now all the leaves are on the ground.
