Snowy Afternoon

Bet you thought it snowed here, huh? Gotcha! No, it's just me tromping around the lakes on a Monday afternoon in mid-December, stalking the snowy egrets.

Beautiful!!! I'm sure glad Beth mentioned it was a leaf...I was beginning to think it was a crawdad/crayfish!!!

Great reflections on a sunny day of stalking.

Beautiful photos! I wish we had some of these guys around here. I have seen them on one particular lake, but it's quite a drive. It's cool to watch herons and egrets fishing!

Only for a split second did I wonder if you could possibly have had snow. With all the strange weather phenomena recently, anything is possible. But then, even before clicking on your blog link, I knew it would be snowy egrets. And what fantastic photos of them. In the photo with the leaf, it looks as if there's something else on the leaf that the egret might have been going for. The leaf appears to have been secondary.

Looks like the Egret got hold of old fishing line and hook. I hope he did not swallow it. Dianne

So beautiful! Last year I discovered that my great-grandmother was active in the struggle to save egrets. At that time their feathers were popular in fashion, especially hats, and the poor birds were being killed for their feathers. Some ladies publicized this and effectively ended the fad of wearing egret feathers.
