In Sync

LSU Lakes, Sunday. We got word through the grapevine that the white pelicans had returned.

Can we stop the beak sync now?
No, Clyde, we're doing the beak thing until I say so. Quit showing off your feathers.
I'm done, Matilda. You can flap that beak all you want.
Dangit, these cormorants are messing up our routine. Where's our stage director?
That's better, except now the turtles are off! Sigh.
Oh, yeah, much more like it.
Pelicans of three, let them be.

Hahaha! Synchronized birding! I love it. Kinda crowded there with both cormorants and turtles.

Gorgeous shots, Gail. My daughter likes to walk around the lakes - I'll tell her to be on the lookout!

Oh, Gail, you had me laughing with this one. After the first couple of pictures, my mind was composing a comment about "Synchronized Pelican grooming." But then the dialogue between Matilda and Clyde cracked me up. Then entered the cormorants and the turtles. You need to write a children's book.

So funny!! For sure --- that's exactly what they are thinking and saying :-}}}
But how lovely - white pelicans!! Have never seen them. Is it a species or do they mix with the grey pelican? Recessive genes? OK- now I have to google this!!
Thank you for sharing Gail!

I love the white pelicans. I was able to see all the pics today except the last two! But satellite Internet has been a challenge all day long!

Oh - too funny. And these photos are just superb!

Too funny.. and some very fine shots, here. I had no idea pelicans were so large. I know how big cormorants are and in these photos they look downright puny. Love the shot with all of the birds and the turtles. Great stuff!

LOL! Wonderful photos! Pelicans are one of the things we don't get to see around here. That particular spot in the lake seems to be very popular!

You just don't realise the size of those pelicans until they stand next to a cormorant. Nice shots Gail.

Ha! I took some brown pelican photos the other day and one looked like the two were siamese twins. Haven't seen any white pelicans but will be on the lookout in the next few years.
