Continuing on with my tricolored heron series from early December. "Hunter" was a treat to watch as he captured meal after meal. Sometimes it was difficult for me to see that he had caught something, especially if it was small, so I wasn't always focused on his prey. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed observing his deliberate, animated hunting style.

I wonder if spreading his wings was a way to cut the glare to see his catch better...seems likely. |

Good morning Gail....
He certainly is a handsome thing. He was on a mission and you did an excellent job in capturing the entire ordeal. Glad he found himself a (tasty) meal...
Talented photography!! Ya'll stay warm today...It's cold here in East Texas!!
hugs
Excellent! I love the second one, with the reflection.
I love it when you're able to get a photo of the fish in the bird's mouth! I do feel bad about the poor fishy, but it makes such a great shot :)
Hugs to you!
What a great set of images, Gail. Love them all; but the spread-wing shot, complete with reflection, is especially wonderful.
Oh my gosh...I think I love the spread wings and the reflection most of all!! Wow.
And as for naming him? That's funny. Bud does the same with the GBHs....he had them all named with "H" names also. Hector, Hector Jr, Heathcliff, Henry etc.
A busy fellow! Marvellous captures, the reflection shot is awesome!
geweldig mooi een mooie serie geworden
I particularly loved the mirrored, arched wing. Love nature
These are awesome, especially the reflections!
Fantastic photos, Gail. You have such patience. And what a telephoto you must have! Maybe a tripod too, to get this clarity?
I love watching wading birds hunt for fish; they're amazing.
Incredible photos! I REALLY need to step out of my little box and push myself in photography!! Your photos are so inspiring!

It takes patience to be a heron -- and even more to photograph the whole hunt! So beautiful.
