Well, whaddya know? Desperate for something different I found this shot I had forgotten about. This is a side door of St. Joseph Cathedral in Baton Rouge. The red reminded me of my mother and daughter, since both are drawn to the color like a magnet.
In other news, the sticky boards underneath our cars are history. When I left for an outing yesterday afternoon, Double D called to tell me that a sparrow had fallen victim. Can you imagine how horrified I was? Well, I was pretty sad and depressed. Later on I read a comment and helpful link on that post from a very dear blogging friend, and realized I had made a terrible mistake by allowing the sticky boards in the first place. I was never comfortable with the idea, but I also couldn't afford any other needless car repairs. For anyone I may have offended, I am truly sorry. I do not recommend sticky boards as a way to deal with wildlife. The link is here should anyone else have a problem with squirrels or other rodents causing damage to property during cold weather. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for that link!

Oh I love that door it is beautiful. HUGS HUGS don't worry Gail about the sticky boards you know now don't beat yourself up over it. HUGS B
Beautiful red door, really unique!
Red doors always remind me of the Elizabeth Arden in Chevy Chase, Md, right outside DC.
I am sorry to hear about your sticky boards troubles, even though I do not get the connection to the sparrow. x
So sorry to hear about the sparrow but don't beat yourself up over that - you had no way of knowing that would happen my friend.
That is indeed so attractive.
Oh my, I'm crazy about doors and that red one is just awesome!!!
i agree with OE ... don't beat yourself up over it. we have them to catch mouse or other bugs. they do great. but one day the hubby was working outdoors & the garage doors were open & one of those silly wrens they love checking everything we have out. very nosy. & at times it can & does get them in trouble. he/she got stuck in one ... the hubby was able to get him/her unstuck. the poor thing did lose a few tail feathers. but at least he/she was free. ( :
take care. big big hugs.
If you'd known what would happen (in re: sticky boards) then you might have something to beat yourself up about, but you didn't. Face it, you wouldn't treat a friend that way so stop doing it to yourself! Replace it with one side of a velcro strip, they hate the sensation on their feet!
Beautiful door! It must be the Virtue door, right? Why else would it be such a rich, cardinal, red?
Loving that red door.. That color sure does pop.. Maybe I should paint the door of "Big Berta" red.. LOL.
I have used sticky boards as well. Live and Learn. Don't be so hard on yourself..
Hope you have an awesome weekend.
Hugs~
Stunning photo of that gorgeous door - I just love the crop!
The door is awesome. I love both the color and the shape.
So sorry about the sticky board...you did what you thought was right, and I'm with you about deterring a big car repair bill.
LOVE the color! I don't know what, but I find photos of doors and windows fascinating...thanks for sharing :) Hugs to you!
Beautiful door shot! Sorry about your car problems. I have never heard of sticky boards before. I found the link very interesting. Yes we have a lot of trees around our house and neighborhood, lots of squirrels and birds but so far no pesky problems.
i use sticky boards inside the house under furniture to catch scorpions and some spiders. sadly, i've caught a few skinks, too, and always feel terrible!
LOVE the red door!
It is unfortunate the sparrow, but I guess you could not know this.
The door is so very beautiful.
What a great door!!
I, too, love red doors! There's an old church in a neighboring city with a beautiful red door that I've photographed before. My own front door is "plum."
Beautiful RED door!
Sticky boards are awful! Even for the critter you don't want!! My school has a terrible mouse problem here and I wouldn't allow them to put them in my office. Just the thought - grrrrrrr!
The photo of the door is beautiful. I wondered about the sticky board when you mentioned it, but I couldn't think of any other solution. I'm glad you've found one. As others have said, don't beat yourself up over it. You'd be gracious if it was one of us, so be gracious to yourself.
A beautiful door!
wow gail, that is a beautiful red door! great shot too.
we have used sticky boards as well-
excellent to catch mice.
don't be so hard on yourself...
happy weekend! xo
I love red, too - I rarely wear it, but I have a lot of it in my house. A rejuvenating color.
Hubby does use the sticky boards inside to catch mice..
Love the red door, it really pops!
Enjoy your weekend!
It's a striking door, Gail. And everyone is right.. no self-flagellation!
Please forgive yourself. The best we can do is learn from our mistakes and move on.
That is a beautiful picture. Now I am hearing in my head, "I see a red door and I want to paint it black..."
Very cool photo! Red is my favorite color.
Red is one of those colors that brightens my day....The front doors of our home were Red just last year and then we had them replaced...I long to have that same red color again. Have never used the sticky boards. Hoping you feel better soon...hugs to my sweet friend..
shug
Lovely photo of the red door. I have never heard of sticky boards! I have been away from blogging for a few days so need to read your previous posts.
What a fantastic door, red is one of my favorite colors! Sorry about the sticky board mess but I hope you don't beat yourself up to much over it. Things happen, it wasn't intentional for the bird.
I know how you feel about car repairs because the wires got snacked on.... Have you heard about using used fabric sheets?
If not all you do is tape your used fabric dryer sheets to your car under the hood by wires. It works! You have to change them out every few weeks though. We have them under our RV. Car hoods and air vents in the house. Re use, recycle re purpose is our motto here and we've drastically cut down on rodents wrecking havoc over here in the cold. Good Luck
I love red and I love unusual doors, so I love this photo! I'm sad the sticky boards didn't work (that poor sparrow!), but I'm glad to know about it before we tried them.
Oh how horrible. Yes, rodents can cause much damage. Dianne
Thanks for the link...I certainly understand your dilemma! Beautiful door too!
This I find that a very special door Gail. Not only the beautiful red color, but also the design!
I like that picture - I think these small scale "cityscapes" type picture a great.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
FABULOUS!
Neat photo. I saw churches with red doors in New England when we did our trip through there and wondered if there was a meaning to them.
