On Wednesday, Sept 26, 2013, my dad and I made plans to fish on some private property owned by a friend of his. Located in a sleepy, unincorporated town called Progress in Mississippi, it appears the only progress going on is the beauty of the land. It was a marvelous day with the most pleasant weather conditions, though still a tad bit warm.
Daddy caught two 7-8 lb. catfish, a bream, and 2 turtles (or the same turtle twice). I finally caught a catfish and reeled it in all by myself. It was about 5-6 lbs. Daddy said I caught on to casting quickly. I was so worried about maiming his ears, eyes or getting the line tangled up in trees. Have you seen the character Sue in The Middle? I'm a little like that. My grandmother used to say I was fru-fru (clumsy). Thankfully, I managed to end the day without maiming myself or anyone else.
We fished with peeled shrimp and live worms. I could not thread the worms; it put my stomach in a turmoil. I even felt bad hooking the fish, but I've been told they don't feel pain the same way humans do. I hope that's true.

Finally, my catfish. Trying to do a selfie with the phone while holding up this
wiggly, heavy fish was a challenge. |
It was such a fun day. After Double D looked at the pictures, he wanted to go too, so we drove back two days later. I was the only one to catch a catfish. More photos soon!

That is fun. I love blackened catfish! Did you eat the one tippy caught?
That was supposed to be the one you caught. Not sure where autocorrect came up with tippy!

Happy memories are made on days like these.
Love your captures of fish and natures beauty :)

The photos of the pond and the cedars are beautiful! You and your dad both caught some nice fish, but I imagine the best part of the day was the time together.

Gail, your post made me sigh heavily with contentment.
Thank you.
Spending the day with your Dad was special even if you had caught nothing.
What a wonderful way to spend time with your dad! Beautiful shots.
What a pretty setting! It sure sounds like you two had a great day.
Wow, what a beautiful place and you got some lovely reflections!
When I was young I did put worms on but didn't like it. :)
Looking forward to the rest of the story.
Look like a lot of fun and it's a beautiful place! How lucky his friend is to own that! Glad you had a great time with your dad!
This post reminds me of a country song it was about fishing with their daughter. What a fun time. I love the beautiful photos. The reflection and colors are gorgeous! Congrats on your catch! Have a happy weekend!
What a beautiful pond to go fishing in. And daddy sure is a handsome young fellow...So glad you guys had fun. Wonderful memory making. Great post.
That seems to be a very very very big catfish.
Beautiful pond- but more so a beautiful memory you made with your dad. Have a great weekend!
Sounds like a super way to enjoy quality time with your dad. He looks pleased with his catch.
Batten down, cozy up and stay safe, Gail...T.S. KAREN can't seem to make up her mind.
What a wonderful day spent with your dad. I look forward to fishing again before too long. I can hook the worms without being too squeamish.. I draw the line at unhooking the fish. For now, anyway. I'm glad you had such a fine day. :)
Nice job! I bet that catfish tasted good.
I haven't been fishing in ages, and was always grossed out by worms on hooks. But I do love to eat fish! When we lived in Alabama we took the kids fishing in a N Georgia pond where they caught trout on pieces of canned corn.
Nice set of shots - I love a spot of fishing!
I did not work too hard this week - I was on holiday! Fishing was not really going to happen as we had some serious spring storms! Lots and rain and very high winds - rain I can cope with, winds I can do without!
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
PS: sorry for slow reply - I was out of phone / internet range for most of the week - rather nice if the truth be told!
Crackin' up at your sympathy for the worms! How nice to go fishing with your dad.
I love fishing for the atmosphere...
Such a beautiful pond. I would have a bit of a problem putting the worm on a hook as well.
Hugs~
Now Gail!! You had a great fish fry with that batch of fish!! I LOVE catfish - but the only catfish you can buy is farm raised!! Bad for you!! How awesome that you caught some fresh water catfish!! If we were closer - I'd be inviting myself over for dinner!!
BTW- Beautiful lake reflection!!
Time with your Dad fishing; what wonderful memories you made...I know you had fun and to catch some fish to boot....I don't like putting the worms on the hook either; I always sweet fisherman do that for me....Of course you know about how long that lasts...
Such a beautiful place for you to spend the day and your shots as usual are gorgeous....
What a wonderful experience with your dad!
