The Best Medicine

I don't need to pop a pill or drink alcohol or smoke "whatever" to calm my nerves. (Although I certainly don't condemn or judge anyone who does. And I occasionally partake in 1 or 2 of these things if I so desire.) No, all I need is my camera in my hand and God's creation surrounding me. Though I've always loved the outdoors, it took me YEARS to figure out how calming communing with nature can be. It's my favorite way to de-stress and get my thoughts in order. I'm a nature nerd, what can I say! When I was a geeky teenager I wish that I had embraced my nerdness instead of trying to run with the cool crowd, driving my mother around the bend. Self-acceptance is the most awesome thing about being older and wiser. Ooops, I almost typed wider. Yeah, I'm a little wider, too. And I don't care. ;) Happy Monday everyone!

I love the curled proboscis. One of these days I'm going to get the perfect shot of it!

Frames courtesy of Steve Rich. Love these!

Great pictures of the butterflies - I hope to be able to get some pictures soon.

I think a word word needs to be invented for the sort of typo where you type the wrong word, but it contains more truth than the one you planned to type!

Gorgeous photos, specially the first Gail. your words make me chuckle, love your sense of humour and I also totally understand the destress which photograpahy gives, even in one's own backyard.

The butterfly photos are beautiful, and the frames and captions are a nice touch. That last photo, though, just has a certain eye-pleasingness that captivates me.

Loved your Freudian slip with "wiser" and "wider" ;) very cute. I agree.....grabbing my camera really helps me get outside of myself.

It has the same affect on me and these are beautiful. (I, too, didn't embrace my inner geek until I was older!)

I didn't know Van Gogh said that. Yes, warm and cuddly ensembles are so comfy looking. Yes, that little gal was so serious about picking up those petals. hahahaha.

Beautiful - nice to see so much color on a gray and rainy day here.

Gail, Your last sentence made me laugh so much I didn't concentrate on your photos so had to back for more. The last shot is extra special with the flowers all in focus but the background so blurred. Don't worry about getting a little wider it might just be that your shrinking a liitle bit from the top down.

I wonder how I missed this post in my sidebar! Wonderful, wonderful color ...and I love Steve Rich's frames, too! I feel the same as you about being out in nature, but I'm finding that I need some new places to walk.

Wise words Gail -- your own as wonderful as the more famous author's quotes. And as always your pictures are sheer perfection. (And I'm going outside to play now!)

Ahhhhh! It is refreshing to look at your photos! Sometimes looking at nature has to be the calmness when one has no time to BE in nature!

Thank you SO much for sharing on Weekly Top Shot #51… I’m sorry that I am very late coming by to visit your entry. But I have been fighting being sick all week, trying to fend off a virus and haven’t been doing much besides working and sleeping.. I do hope you’ll forgive me and come by tomorrow to share on Weekly Top Shot’s 1st Anniversary!

I know exactly what you mean. No matter how busy life gets, I promised myself to carve out a few minutes a day outdoors with my camera. It's the best kind of medicine that makes everything better. Beautiful photos.

-I'm a little older and "wider," too. ;)
