Weekend Update

Howdy folks! The arts and crafts fair put on by St. Luke's Episcopal Church was a great experience. I loved spending the day with Sweet B and her equally sweet son. We met a lot of people, even making some contacts for future work. A lady from St. Amant purchased cards from both of us and asked us to photograph her horses and stables. There were three ladies who wanted photography lessons, and the guy in the booth next to us was interested in buying art for three locations of a business he was expanding. So even though sales were a little lackluster, we made some great contacts! Our minds were swirling with ideas like getting a web site, etc. Not sure where all this will lead, but I feel hopeful.

Some of you asked which notecards sold at the arts and crafts fair. Below are the ones that sold. You've seen them all before here at some point.

I have been a little worn out from the experience, so I promise to catch up with everyone during the week. Oh, and since I have so much extra card stock I am going to host a couple of give-aways in the near future. Y'all be good and have a great week!

Bird & Butterfly Stand-off

The heat and humidity has worn down my desire to be out in nature and take photographs. And if it's not hotter than a 600 degree sauna, the hard rains arriving almost daily make me wish I had a little boat to paddle around the neighborhood. So you may see a decrease in posting from me for the rest of the summer. Sorry about that. I will still be visiting you, but won't be posting as much until I can once again enjoy the great outdoors.

Anyone seen my mojo?

Well, it's not because I haven't been out with my camera, but I can't seem to find anything new or different to shoot. I had my heart set on photographing the barred owls yesterday which turned out to be a disappointment since I only saw 2 species of snakes and a five-lined skink. Reptilian subjects are okay, but not something I want to feature on my blog. Maybe I've lost my mojo. :) I hope not. Anyway, I have another chance at the owls this afternoon. In the meantime, I still have many images from January of the titmouse that I haven't shared yet, so here ya go!

Think Pink!

My sweet blogging friend, Renae, of Simple Sequins, has recently discovered that she has breast cancer and will soon start treatment. Her blog is about fashion, and she simply shines when she is modeling her ensembles. Renae's attitude is perpetually upbeat and she's incredibly KIND with a huge HEART.

For Valentine's Day I thought I'd try to honor Renae and let her know that I am praying for her and thinking about her each day. May God continue to watch over you and others battling this disease. I am confident you are going to beat this and do it in big style along the way! Hugs and love to you dear girl.

Poser

Since my Tricolored Tuesday series is soon ending, it came to my attention that I had a superfluous number of tufted titmice images. However, I just can't bring myself to start a Tuesday Tits or Titmouse Tuesday series, no matter how tempting. What were they thinking when they named this bird???

The nests of the TT are lined with hair plucked from live animals. Hairs from oposums, raccoons, and mice have been identified, and even human hair. They hoard food during winter, taking one seed at a time, cracking the seeds before hiding them.

Sitting Pretty

I wanted some nice portraits of my favorite feathered friends and these beauties were gracious enough to indulge me.

Baeolophus bicolor

I love these acrobatic, animated birds with their mohawks, big eyes and tiny beaks. They are year-round residents in Louisiana and we're happy to have them. Photos taken January 7, 2014.

Nurturing Nature

Since Tuesday was supposed to be the last of our sunshine for a while, I found myself back at Bluebonnet Swamp hoping to spot the Eastern Towhee I had seen last week. No such luck, but I met a very nice fellow blogger visiting all the way from the UK. Steve, I enjoyed your delightful accent and showing you around the swamp introducing you to our native wildlife. Hope you will visit our wonderful state again sometime!

When I returned home the sun was still very bright, so off to the backyard I went where I was dazzled even more!
Look who came to visit my neighbors' Chinese Tallow tree: the Cedar Waxwings!

If only I could get their back wings - the color and spots of red are exquisite.

Some type of sparrow resting on the palm tree.

Yellow-rumped warbler swallowing a crane fly. Good! One less to enter the house.
