Took these shots on the last day of April at Bluebonnet Swamp. Sometimes when the birds aren't cooperating I turn to other critters to pass the time.
Nom nom nom nommmmmmm
Who, me?
What'd I do?
What is that bird DOING?
Time to skedaddle!
This is the blind I use at Bluebonnet Swamp. As you can see, the area is getting
quite overgrown. Last week, my compadres found a cotton mouth snake near the tent.
No more blind sitting for me unless I wear my thick rubber boots, which is not likely in this heat.
Hi Gail, I dropped in from blogger friend Denise's blog and had a great time reading previous posts and especially seeing your photos! In previous years, I had several DSLRs but not only use a couple of all in one cameras, aka point & shoot digitals and recently we upgraded to iPhones which has provided another handy camera. Hope to return for future visits and invite you to drop into our blog as well. By way of introduction, I am "Beatrice" at the Frog & PenguINN, but Dorothy to my friends.
I really like your shots of this little guy! He is captured perfectly just doing what squirrels do! I hope you are careful about the snakes. They too, are beautiful creatures, but the danger lurks when we are in their vicinity. Be careful.
Yeah - I bet the snakes would love your little sitting area too!! Wonderful shots of your squirrel!! They are fun creatures to watch and very comical when they start playing and chasing each other.
The blind must be relatively easy to set up?? When I saw the setting and knew it was near the swamp, I wondered about other creatures! The squirrel was certainly captured beautifully and in such great detail.
Wonderfully detailed shots of the Great American Tree Rat! They are one of the most annoying and cutest of all creatures. I would be staying out of that blind for a while, too!
I'm not sure which scares me more, the alligators or the snakes - goodness, Gail! Squirrels, on the other hand, are hilarious, and you've captured the essence of the little guy - nicely done!
The blind sounds fun, the cottonmouth not so much. But your photos are superb, great captures of this cute little squirrel Gail. His personality really shines through.
Hey girl.....some sweet squirrel was having a hay day....He was excited to be the center of attention. My hubby has a blind similar to that....he hunts wild hogs from it.. BTW...I sure enjoyed seeing your new FB profile picture....y'all are sooo cute!!
Your Squirrel shots are adorable. But when you said "SNAKE" that would have had me running for the hills. They keep saying we will see bears up here in Colorado. They scare me just as much as snakes. Oh well hopefully I will get lucky and not see one.
"Who, me?" made me smile, thank you. :) Great captures, Gail. I also like the look behind the scene... and wonder what it feels like to wait in such a blind for a bird or another creature until they arrive close enough within your camera reach.

Fabulous shots of this cute little squirrel. Snakes can be beautiful, but I don't want to have them at my feet. Stay safe!
OK snakes yep I would be wearing boots too even if it is hot:) LOVE your squirrely shots. Hug B
Wow, these shots are amazing! I love watching squirrels and these close-ups are simply gorgeous.
Cotton mouths are the yellow jackets of the snake world...mean-tempered little boogers!
The Great Scot fell in love with all the wildlife here; it's not nearly so evident in Scotland. He'll enjoy your squirrelly photos.

These are some amazing shots. You can even see the detail in the fur! Awesome job Gail :)
They're SO right for the camera!!
He's a fine looking fella. I think I would pass on the blind, too! Scary!
Cutie! You captured him so well! Love the captions. Uh, cotton mouth . . . NO thanks.
A few weeks past, when you mentioned the blind, that was the first thing I thought of...snakes. And for me, NO BIRD photo is worth it. I hate snakes.
The squirrel photos are super, and love your captioning Gail.
I really don't like snakes, but the squirrel is so cute! Didn't he noticed the pictures you take?
And how wonderful pictures!
Hugs
Yes indeed. Time to find a new blind!
Great pictures :-)

These are perfectly sharp pictures of the squirrel.
Many details in the coat, my compliments Gail.
Greetings Irma
yeah, more wildlife may find you than you'd like. :)
the grey squirrels have such long ears compared to our fox variety. but i love their sleek white bellies!

I enjoy watching the squirrels at my feeding stations as much as I do the birds :O)
Fantastic shots Gail! I love the first one. Your squirrels are a lot slimmer than ours. I don't think I'd be using that bird blind any time soon!
That little fellow looks lean and healthy, not like the fat and lazy squirrels around here.
Wonderfully detailed shots of the Great American Tree Rat! They are one of the most annoying and cutest of all creatures. I would be staying out of that blind for a while, too!
Gail...thanks for visiting and leaving a comment on my Lazuli Bunting post. Much appreciated.
Keep clear of those snakes, now, y'hear?
dat is wel een hele mooie oplossing.
Super shots Gail.
Never used a blind and I'm also not keen on anything slithering over my feet!!
I'm not sure which scares me more, the alligators or the snakes - goodness, Gail! Squirrels, on the other hand, are hilarious, and you've captured the essence of the little guy - nicely done!
Hello Gail,
What a fantastic shots!!
So cute to see this squirrel so close in your beautiful images. Well done!!
Best regards,
Marco

ohhh love the squirrel photos...ewwww cotton mouth, yuck!
You make rodents almost respectful! Stay away from snakes; maybe you should travel w/a hunting dog to ID the snakes!

Tree rats make me laugh even if they can be annoying little twits! Really nice photos!
Great shots of these cute little rascals.
you are getting amazing images in that "pressure cooker"!!
you are my hero and these are wonderful captures of this little tree rat!!
Squirrels are about the cutest things ever.

Your shots are always so crisp and clear. I must ask what camera and lens you normally use.
Superb photographs, Gail!
I seem to attract a lot of squirrels when I'm out since I'm always acting like a .... huh? You've heard this one?
Snakes are why telephoto lenses were invented! :)

Your squirrel shots are fabulous. They are such fun and cute little critters. Wow a Cotton Mouth, that's scary.
