When I shot this I had no idea an alligator was sneaking up behind. The gator must've sailed past because I didn't hear or see a commotion. |

Little Boy Blue
Images of the little blue heron from our recent weekend trip to Lake Martin, LA. I will preface this by letting you know the light was bad and the nesting site was a few hundred feet away, so it was a challenge to shoot. I'm trying to talk Double D into returning this weekend. Negotiations are a little tense, but I have a good feeling I will get my way. :)
Gail Dixon
I like this bird. I think you did well.
ReplyDeleteI think the lighting is fabulous!!! Give the blues and purples of the little blue heron a much more intense coloring!!!!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic Gail.
Nice shots. She was fantastically cooperative on that fifth shot, wasn't she.
ReplyDeleteI don't shoot with a great zoom, but I've been surprised many a time once I got home and reviewed my photos. That is half the fun. My favorite...a long shot of my Lab swimming in the river...in the background, a fish flying four feet in the air.
just spectacular! his blues and purples are wonderful!
ReplyDeletelight...distance, phooey, these are stunning, just stunning!!
ReplyDeleteand the perfect backdrop to showcase his gorgeous colors!!
if you need any help with double d, let me know....i can give you a few pointers, stuff that ALWAYS works for me ;)
That's one gorgeous blue heron! You captured it beautifully!
ReplyDeleteA blue egret -how stunning!
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine how much better your Blue Boy could have been!
ReplyDeleteI'd say you did very well despite the conditions. Great photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beauty and I love that you got the gator in the shot too!!
ReplyDeleteAmazing bird and your shots are perfect!
ReplyDeleteOh how beautiful! I've never seen this bird before. Thanks so much for posting it!
ReplyDeleteWOW...I don't think I have seen one that blue before! GORGEOUS! Pretty awesome that you got a shot with both the Heron and a gator! BTW you are brave to be in those waters with all the gators about. big hugs, xoxo http://simplysouthernblogger.com/favorite-little-things-of-cats-and-yarn/
ReplyDeleteBeautiful bird. That is just crazy about the alligator!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are spectacular Gail! What a beautiful heron, such a gorgeous blue!
ReplyDeleteOh he's a beauty.. and a lot bluer than the Great Blue. It would freak me out to see the gator... but that's just me. Some people actually kayak around them. ;)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous images. This bird looks almost velvet like.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos of the blue heron. I love the next to the last photo of him.
ReplyDeletegorgeous blue. what an amazing bird. so different ...

Beautiful bird! Glad that gator didn't stop. Very nice series of shots. I would be wanting to go back, too.
ReplyDeleteI love the Little Blue, it is one of my favorite herons.. Great shots! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThese are amazing captures, Gail. If you'd had "better" light, I'm afraid the rich colors wouldn't have been apparent. Really well done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures. Your photos really showcase his colorful plumage.
ReplyDeleteWell I happen to think these shots are awesome.. I can only dream to shoot as good as you my friend. A gator that close and you didn't see it. Now that is scary..
ReplyDeleteHugs~
Gorgeous color! Really nice shots! I hope you can go back.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are beautiful. That Big Bertha lens (isn't that what you call it?) really pulled through for you this time. I want one of those!
ReplyDeletewow…and holy crap….an alligator like right there???YIKES !!!
ReplyDeleteSweet, love the gator in the last.
ReplyDeleteA true BLUE heron! I didn't know of this one, but there are many of the big birds I don't know. What a beautiful, showy creature. And the alligator....most interesting, but I say "No, thank you!"
ReplyDeleteA beautiful "big blue" heron!!
ReplyDeleteThat sneaky gator!! It's fun when you check out your photos and you find a surprise!!
Lovely!!!
Gail, you please be careful around those waters. I have several fears; elevators, skyscrapers, cruise-ships and ...alligators. They make me shiver when I see them in any form.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't news to you, right? I've said this before, huh?
Watch out for those things!!!
GORGEOUS PHOTOS = GORGEOUS
Love little blues -- and you got the greatest picture of him all ruffly. I like to see alligators (still haven't got tired of them) but you gotta' be careful about them sneaking up on you !!
ReplyDeleteThey look like great shots to me.
ReplyDeleteAgain, this is such a beautiful bird Gail. This is really a blue heron. Fantastic to see. This I do not! Knew
ReplyDeleteYour blue heron is so much more colorful than ours which is duller in color...gorgeous and oh that gator was a bit scary to me!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful it looks beyond real. Great job under less than optimal conditions!
ReplyDeleteYour "bad" shots are always ten times better than my good ones!
