Years and years ago when someone in my family was irate about something or someone, my grandmother would say, "He's got the reds." Is that a Louisiana thing? I've never heard it anywhere else, but I've only lived in two states, so I'm not an authority. Also, when I was a youngster, a 'sore throat' was called a 'red throat.' Anyone hear that one?
This post has nothing to do with me having the reds or a red throat; just wanted to display my pretty little back yard birds and I'm running out of ways to title my posts. :)

I guess this is more of a rosy-red. And I only WISH he was a back yard visitor. :) Roseate spoonbill, Lake Martin, LA |

Wild Bird Wednesday and
I'd Rather B Birdin'. Thanks hosts!!
I have never seen a roseate in the tree like that, before!! Also, never heard of the two 'red' expressions. I've heard of having the Red a$$ before. Meaning: being really mad....but haven't heard that for eons.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of those reds, make sense though! Your photographs are just stunning! Oh my heavens, that roseate in that tree is something else!
ReplyDeleteI normally LOVE cardinals, however since my Kentucky Wildcats are playing the Louisville Cardinals Friday night I don't like them this week :)
ReplyDeleteThe title worked :)
ReplyDeleteFour gorgeous shots of four beautiful species.
I haven't heard of 'He's got the reds' and I have lived in Illinois, Texas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Must be a Louisiana thing. Love all your reds, but was really happy to see the spoonbill.
ReplyDeleteat 1st i thought that was a flamingo ... i will have to go & look him up ... what a cool bird. awesome colors.
ReplyDeleteabout the ads on my vlog ... there is always a x to hit to get rid of the ad ... it might be very pale but it is there. you just have to find it. i meant to say that in one of my emails to ya ... forgot it. ( :
My grandmother always called our sore throat a RED throat. Haven't thought about that in years! These "red" birds are striking and just as pretty as can be. I know it sure makes for happy days when you can sit in your backyard and see such lovelies...
ReplyDeleteHave a bright, sunshiny day!
shug
LOVE that cardinal portrait! wow! can't say i've ever heard those expressions, but they're amusing. :)
ReplyDeleteand that red-belly is a FINE shot, too! wow, again!
ReplyDeleteVery colorful post! We don't see cardinals out here. I miss that.
ReplyDeleteIt makes sense since anger can be described as being red hot. There is also the phrase, "Seeing red."
ReplyDeleteNever hear the "reds". I heard, "he's got a burr..." you know where! Your birds are so pretty. Wish I had the guts to brave the mice who would surely come up from the woods below for the seeds the birds would drop!
ReplyDeleteThe phrase in our family when someone was angry was "he's seeing red".
ReplyDeleteBeauty shots Gail! The woody is gorgeous!
Must be a Louisiana thing, or at least not a "my part of Texas" thing. But I like it! Love your mouthful shots. Great focus and detail!
ReplyDeleteNope never heard that one. Great shots!
ReplyDeleteI really miss cardinals. Why can't they come to Oregon and visit once in awhile? I would gladly share sunflower seeds with them.
ReplyDeleteLike Kerry, I'm missing the cardinals also. We haven't seen any up at our new digs yet. Lovely shots. I love the little feathery wisp blowing in the wind.
ReplyDeleteHaven't heard of "the reds," but I love your reds! Is the spoonbill color affected by its diet, as flamingos are? I really like your cardinal and woodpecker images--amazing detail.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of either of those says.I do love the 'reds' you posted.
ReplyDelete...thanks for linking up this wonderful post of your reds at the Bird D'Pot!!
ReplyDeleteBud and I just returned from a birding trip, and ended up seeing a huge owl! I'm still in awe. It wasn't red tho, but I was red with excitement...the blood rushed through my veins as I shook trying to get a good picture of it before it flew away.
Gorgeous birds all of them.
ReplyDeleteThese are all great shots, Gail. The cardinal is a special favorite; and, like Hilary, I liked those wispy feathers blowing in the wind. The woodpecker shot is also perfectly lovely.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous reds.
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of Reds! The Roseate Spoonbill is one of my favorites..
ReplyDeleteBeautiful captures, Gail! Looks like your backyard birds could use a manicure! Your spoonbill reminded me to check the TX migration, I never can remember when they're here!
ReplyDeleteWoW!!! LOVE your reds!! I spent half the day photographing my birds, playing in the snow!!
ReplyDeleteDo you shoot through glass or have an open window?? your images are especially beautiful!!
A+++ shots today- fantastic! Is that a bottle tree in the background of the second shot?
ReplyDeleteLove the red in these birds.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! The woodpecker is my favorite! When I was in high school there was a saying that was popular if someone was being difficult or they weren't nice - people would say, "Man, that's red!" or "Why are you being so red?" LOL! Seems stupid now.
ReplyDeleteI am super loving your reds !!!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful and amazing!
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard that expression before but the color red is one of my favorite colors :). Wonderful images full of great detail.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of either of those "RED" expressions before. Very interesting. And your photos are WOW... I always love my stop here at your blog.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
The spoonbill would be one hell of a garden bird!!
ReplyDeleteGreat red shots.
Cheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
LOVE that 1st shot....and the Roseate Spoonbill...how stunning!
ReplyDeleteLovely reds! No, never heard your quotes, but I've got an aunt who says such things. Maybe it's an a generation thing.
ReplyDeleteIf you get a roseate spoonbill in your backyard, I am coming to live with you ;>)! Loving your red birds. Have never heard the word 'red' used in exactly that way, but people do say "he was seeing red' or I was seeing red when they get really angry. So I guess it's sort of the same thing.
ReplyDeleteHi Loved all 4 shots. I think red is any bird is beautiful. have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteI heard the expression on Breakfast at Tiffany's.
ReplyDeleteThis is new to me.
ReplyDeleteLovely birds.
A very big compliment for these beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite a bit (healthy) jealous lol ......
Really beautiful these birds.
