Greetings from battered Baton Rouge! Really though, we did not get hit as hard as they were predicting. Isaac was pretty wimpy as far as hurricanes go. I've been through much worse. Not to minimize other areas that were hit hard, but for our area, we came through it fairly unscathed. Here is a video I took several hours before Isaac passed through.
I'm happy to report that Pierre survived! Here he is feeding right before the strong winds hit. Our house is shaped like a U with the carport on one side and the master bedroom on the other, so this feeder was protected from most of the wind. I've seen him several times since, so I know he made it.
My other little bird friends had more sense than I thought. They all gathered together under the carport for shelter. I left a bowl of seeds for them under the carport which they quickly found and devoured.
Yesterday we went to scope out the area. These photos are anywhere from 5 to 10 miles from our house. Some are still without power, but we never lost it, although we did lose cable and internet for half a day.
I will not be around much for the next 4 days because my son and his beautiful girlfriend are coming for a visit. In fact, they are driving in as I prepare this post. Beyond excited doesn't describe what I'm feeling right now. And relieved, because I didn't know if they'd get to come because of Isaac. So now I get to go and clean up the mess in the yard that Isaac left behind. So rude.
My heart and prayers go out to those that suffered much worse. Thanks so much to you for all the prayers and concern, comments and emails sent our way! I appreciate you all much more than you can know! I am blessed with the BEST blogging friends!!

how sweet of you to look out for the birds. glad your place was fine, and glad your son gets to come in! :)
Glad to hear that you made it through and are OK. There sure are a lot of trees down - big ones! Have a great weekend!
So glad you guys were safe. God Bless you for taking care of all your little bird friends. I just can't imagine being that small and being battered in a storm.
You've been in my thoughts since your last post. So glad to see this update and know that it wasn't as severe as it might have been in your immediate vicinity. Good news about Pierre, too. :)
Good to see you blogged almost through the storm Gail and that Pete survived too. Some of your neighbours looked to be not so lucky. Thanks for updating us with your pictures. Enjoy your family time.
Am thankful yall were spared bad Isaac! And I enjoyed the Autumn video as well. Goodness, she looks like you!
Enjoy your son and his guest!
Thankful for the minimal damage of Isaac...it can always go either way...and sometimes a tropical storm can do much more damage than a hurricane. Have an extraordinary time with family!!!
I'm so glad y'all weren't hit any harder than you were. Your images remind me of those we took after Hurricane Alicia. Really hits you how much power those storms hold! Love your video of Pierre - he seems big for a hummingbird!
Wow, so good to know you came through this along with your birdie friends! Whew, that was quite a storm, even if it wasn't your worst.
Have fun with your son & his girlfriend; I know how delightful that can be.
So glad you got through the storm pretty much unscathed - the birds too. Have a great family visit!
Glad to know that you're safe, and everything is ok in your part.
Enjoy your son's visit!
Good good good! I'm so glad ya'll made it thru so well!
It's probably pretty exhausting for Pierre to wait & worry about the storm, so he was filling up in case he couldn't get out later! LoL! =)
that was so wonderful of you to provide for the birds during the storm...they will repay you by giving you much pleasure. Does look like there was quite a bit of storm damage, many uprooted trees...but glad you came thru unscathed and so happy for you that your son is visiting!! Have fun!!
Yea, you made it! Glad to hear things are ok, and that Pierre made it through the bad weather, too. Have fun with your family!
I'm so glad that Isaac didn't pack too much of a punch. Enjoy your people!
So glad you are safe and without serious damage.
Fabulous pics! i am always excited to see your work.
I was so excited about my new camera. Just knowing I could captures the close ups with the new lenses. There is much to learn, slow and steady. It has been fun and the new camera is stunning, it is me who is a dud sometimes.
Enjoy you son's visit.
I do think your son's visit will be a very enjoyable one, as enjoyable as those feathered friends have been.
There was definitely some damage, but I'm glad you didn't get hit as hard as you could have been. Birds and animals have a great sense of changing weather and usually know to lay low.
Very good ~ loved the shot of the birds on the fenceline ~ Pierre does seem larger than our hummingbirds.
So sad to see all the damage, but thank goodness you and the birds are ok. Have a lovely time with your son.
Came over to check up on you, Missy.
So glad to hear that you came out of this relatively unscathed. yay!
Enjoy your visit!
Glad you're ok Gail!! Being from Fla., I know the feeling before it hits, during and after the hurricane passes. We also would drive around checking on all our friends and seeing where we can help out. My sister lives in Shreeveport and my neice was sent home from LSU. Her older sister was sent home from LSU the first week of school when Katrina visited. My heart goes out to those outer lining towns that did get flooded. So much loss!
Glad you and your bird friends are all OK! How nice of you to feed them! A kind and gentle soul you are! Enjoy your visit with your son! Send a few pictures of him our way!
The birds were lucky to have you. I appreciate the update (and great videos) and of course knowing that you and yours are OK. Have a lovely visit with your son and his girl!
i'm thrilled that you didn't have have any damage, that pierre is safe and that your weekend with family sounds like it will be so fun. enjoy the kids....xo
SO glad to hear that you and your feathered friends made it through the storm!!
Enjoy your visit with you family!
Glad you made it through relatively unscathed, although looks like some of the surrounding areas got hit pretty hard. Enjoy the visit with your son!
Glad to hear you came through relatively unscathed.
Enjoy your next few days!
Glad you (and the birds) came through OK. I'm glad we dont really get weather like that here - the storm front in my picture was impressive, but did not do any damage (as far as I know!)

Gail, so glad you're alright and Isaac is over. I love the photo of the bird on the fence with the others in the background. It was nice to see that Pierre is doing well, too.
Enjoy your time with your son and his girlfriend. And check your mailbox later this week for a package. :)
Oh my goodness... such damage all around. So happy you are all okay.
We were in Biloxi and left 2 days early so we would be out of there when the storm hit. We are now back in Pennsylvania and glad to of left but feel so sad for those of you who had to stay.
Good to know on so many levels all is okay there from your house to the feathered gang. I know I too would worry for them. God bless you for taking care of his creation.
Prayers your son and his girlfriend and their safety in driving there and back home.
GOD keep you all safe.
Glad to hear not much damage for you. Hope you enjoyed the weekend with your son!
So glad you and your birdies weren't harmed... have fun with your son. :)
I am so glad to hear that you made it through okay, Gail! I saw some pictures from Louisiana, and some places got hit really hard.
You enjoy every moment with your son.
xo.
Ooops!!
Meant to tell you that I absolutely LOVED the Pierre video. You "grow" much bigger hummingbirds down there than we do up here in NY!
He's a sweetheart.
Pleased to see you and your feathered friends have fared well. Those birds are smarter than we think.
So glad that you and your bird friends were not seriously effected by Isaac. I enjoyed watching your video of the humming bird hovering at the feeder. That is amazing! - Dave
Glad you survived. Living in the South and going through hurricanes like Frederick, Ivan, and even the edges of Katrina, you don't get too excited with a Cat 1 or even 2. I found myself saying, "Oh, it's just a 1." Glad you gave the birds a place or refuge. Our hummers were pretty wet too, but I guess they need that wet energy to keep going.
