Greetings! As promised, here are my photos from
Cypress Island. Unfortunately, I didn't have the right lens with me, so we're going back again this weekend. I also did not spot the Roseate Spoonbill, so another trip is imperative!
On an unrelated note, Friday after next I have a job interview lined up. We drove there today and discovered it's only 3.2 miles from our house! Hopefully, it'll be the right fit. You really can't beat that commute! I could even go home for lunch. Praying it works out.
Okay, enough chit-chat. Here are the photos (best viewed large).

Tri-colored heron
Green heron
CORRECTION 5/22/12: THIS IS A GREEN HERON. MY FELLOW BIRDERS AT PROJECT NOAH HAVE SET ME STRAIGHT. :) |

If I ever do a boat tour around there, it's gonna have to be a bigger vessel than this. See below. |

According to some fishermen we met, this was at least a 10 footer. I was really mad at myself for not bringing the 400mm lens! No way I was going to get too close to the bank. One of the men had a rinky-dink canoe that he offered to rent me. I was like, "Uh, no thanks, I value my arms and legs!" He then held up his right hand which was missing part of his middle finger and said, "They don't take much!" He laughed as my jaw hit the ground. :/ |

too funny on the guy! :)
i LOVE the little blue! such rich colors. and the red-eared slider is too cute - that sort of reptile i can handle. :)
GOOD LUCK on the job interview!!! that would be a non-commute!
LOL ... that guy is funny! I have yet to see a tri-colored heron! Great capture!
Great photos, Gail. I can't get over all the critters you always manage to spot. Best of luck on your job interview. That would be a great commute :)
Congratulations on sighting the Tri-colored Heron - an impressive bird.
That boatload of people looks like easy pickings for a big gator.
The water hyacinth is so beautiful. I've not seen either of these herons, they both quite striking.
I'm glad it's close enough that you'll be able to go back so soon! I of course was talking about Cypress Island. Here's wishing you well on the "close" job interview too!
Good luck with the job! Great shots can't wait to see what you do with your 400 lens!
First: GOOD LUCK on the job interview! I hope it is a good fit!
Second: no way, no how I'd get into a dinky boat for a tour (or rent). Have you ever seen how far (and fast) a gator can propel itself out of the water?!!
Love your photos. I feel like I get to visit your neck of the woods!
Yep, I have to say I am with you on that one.. NO way would I get an a small canoe. Your photos look wonderful my friend..
Best of luck to you on your Job interview. For years I worked miles away from home.. It was wonderful. If the weather was good I would sometimes walk..
Hope you have a wonderful week.
Hugs~
You were very wise not to take the canoe! Loving your new reality...thanks for sharing them with us!
Hope the job is a perfect fit! The commute sounds divine.
Yikes! I'm with you about that boat!
Can't wait to see the pictures that you take this weekend...I am with you, I don't think I would EVER go out in a boat as small as that...Not in any of the Louisiana swamps...
Have you ever been to Avery Island, just South of Lafayette? I always enjoy visiting there...lots of wildlife! Great pictures...love the turtle pic!
What fabulous shots!
Good luck with the job interview.
Looks like a great place to visit Gail, and I just love that little turtle!
I am glad you have an interview, and I am sure it will go well.
Oh, those are great! Love the blule heron--he really is blue!! Good luck in the job hunt. I hope it works out. I drive 60 miles to work, so I'd LOVE to be close enough to go home for lunch. :)
I can't believe you didn't have your Big Guy with you! Beautiful photos anyway, and I don't blame you for wanting a bigger boat! yikes! Good luck on the job interview!!
The turtle is my favorite! ;)
Lol...that guy is nuts!
Good luck with your job interview. I hope you get it. :)
They're so nonchalant about those things, aren't they! I don't blame you for not getting a closer shot of that 10 footer... =0
I just ain't tough enuf to live down there! =)
I also wish you good luck on the job interview... in the voice of Rob Schneider, "You can do it!" heheheee =)
