Civil War Cemetery and Collection

I found this in my Draft folder, completely forgotten. Not sure why I never posted this from last year, so Veterans Day seemed a good day to publish it. Many prayers and thanks to our military!!! God bless them.

My dad and I visited this civil war cemetery located in Magnolia, MS sometime last year.

It seems odd that flowers were placed here since this soldier has been dead for 150 years.
Perhaps they blew over from another grave.

This is a small sampling of my dad's Civil War collection. The collection has grown since I last took these photos, so I need to go back and document the new pieces.

My dad actually eats with this spoon. He likes the idea that someone with the initials O.E.F. actually used it 150 years ago.

Same with the fork.

Proudly posing with some of his antique rifles.

An actual bullet that struck the handle of the rifle during the Civil War.

See the piece of flint in the thingamajig? It somehow created a spark which fired the gun. I'm sure I explained that perfectly. :)

Not sure if this is a Civil War era knife, but it's kind of cool.
Daddy decorated it himself by painting the handle
and adding the tiger eye.

Aged

Last Saturday, hubby and I decided to have an early dinner at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants located in the old downtown square of our city. We've gotten to be like senior citizens lately, eating early so we can beat the crowd. It's one of those subtle life changes that brand one elderly, but we don't care, we do what we feel like doing which is part of the beauty of being older and wiser. At least that's how I justify it. I still remember Jerry Seinfeld's line when he was visiting his parents in Florida and they wanted to eat at 4:30 so they could get the early bird special. Jerry said, "I'm not force-feeding myself a steak at four-thirty to save a coupla bucks, I'll tell you that!"

It was a few minutes till 5 when we pulled up to Agave Azul. I quickly spotted an antique store right across the street. Ever since I bought the Kodak Brownie off e-bay last year I have been thinking about collecting antique cameras. Double D said we had plenty of time, that he'd like to go in and browse also. How great is it that my husband likes to shop for antiques? Love him!

As soon as I walked into the store, I asked the sweet little lady behind the counter if they had any old cameras. She cheerfully led me to the only antique camera in the store, the No. 2C Autographic Kodak, Jr. produced in 1913. It even came with the tripod!

I also collect fleur-de-lis objects and angels. What about you? Do you collect anything? I'd be interested in hearing what other people enjoy collecting.

Hurry up, spring!

Ever since I read this blog post at Chronicles of a Country Girl earlier in the week, I have been meaning to buy myself a bouquet of flowers. It seemed that every day there was something more important, so it never happened. Despite one distraction after another, I decided that today was the day. Flowers I would have! After photographing the heck out of my bouquet, I played around in Photoshop until my heart was content, Izzy snuggled in my lap the entire time. I need photography time and Izzy needs a lap. It's a good combination that works well for us.
This is a frame by Coffeeshop Blog. Rita really has some great freebies!
I love my new fleur-de-lis bookends.
Used Kim Klassen's "Sweet Treat" texture.
These are a few of my favorite books.
Leonardo da Vinci is my favorite artist. His life and art are fascinating to me.
Desaturated the image, then used a texture by Jerry Jones called Box 4.

These daisies really were that bright. Aren't they cheerful?

Trying something new with my camera. If my big fat chair arm hadn't been in the way
I could've gotten the entire reflection on the marble table. I love it anyway.
Submitted this for The Creative Exchange.

This was my submission for week 8 of Focus 52.
Jan is the sweetheart that runs the group. Happy birthday again!!
