Golden
These are images of the American goldfinch seen on Jan, 9 at Bluebonnet Swamp. They were wearing their drab winter colors, but now are starting to show more color. By the time they are decked out, they will be leaving us to go farther north to breed. Hope to get some photos with the brighter yellow feathers soon.
I certainly enjoyed working from home the prior two weeks and catching up with some of my favorite customers, but I'm really glad to have my days to myself again. If the weather would only cooperate so I can get out with my camera.
Happy Friday!!
Happy Friday!!

ReplyDeleteI love goldfinches so much, as you know. Thank you for these pics!
ReplyDeleteNo matter if they have their winter cloak on...they're still a mighty fine specimen!! Gorgeous images...love the lighting in all the photos.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful little bird!
ReplyDeleteWhen we were actively cycling about a decade ago, we'd go along this one road where goldfinches seemed to thrive. I loved their kind of loopy flight paths.
ReplyDeleteThese goldfinch images are gorgeous! When we see them, they're all dressed up in their brightest yellow; but they are so difficult to photograph, with all their flitting around. You've managed some incredible captures here.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhh, lovely close-ups Gail! We have Goldfinches here year round. I like the soft winter colours of their plumage.
ReplyDeleteThey shimmer and sparkle in the sunshine :) Beautiful pictures and precious birds. Happy weekend, friend!
ReplyDeletelove your little sweeties. we still have a gang of them eating thistle seed here, too. guess the colder temps have kept them south longer this year than i remember.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful birds. God's the original artist (graphic and fine art), isn't she? And nobody captures birds better that you!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. I will, once this snow we got overnight melts!
Working from home is such a blessing. Winter doesn't seem to want to leave most of the country... Hoping it does for you soon. Love the photos as always :)

Love your photos Gail, such great close-ups. I also love to see them in their bright yellow plumage but oh my, it's still a real pretty bird. Have a great weekend and hope the weather co-operates for you :)
ReplyDeleteCute little Goldfinches. Once they return north is when I get to enjoy them. :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful captures. Ours are still in drab mode. It's still far to cold for them to be dressing in bright colours. Yours are lovely to see.
ReplyDeleteSweet shots of the Goldfinches.. I am hoping for some good sunny weather this weekend. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNice pictures - I managed to get some decent images of birds from the US during my busy time! All I need to do now is recover from the jet lag and get organised! (That may take some time!)
ReplyDeleteCheers - Stewart M - Melbourne
They are beautiful, even in their winter duds!!
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet little bird!!
ReplyDeletesuch beautiful color and markings!!
I wonder if some goldfinch spend the whole winter in Oregon -- I've certainly seen them in these drabber colors as well as bright yellow. Hmm., I should know this but I don't.
ReplyDeleteWow! They're getting the yellow back!
ReplyDeleteThese are some really magical photos. Really nice.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Great catch light!

Yes and isn't Lacey's so dang cute? She is so sweet, too. Not a snooty bone in her body, let me tell ya. lol
Have a great weekend and I pray the weather gets just right for your captures and such, k? k. ♥
Great shots! I love goldfinches.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize they lost some of their color in the winter! Gorgeous photos!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous close ups. Always amazed by your creative eye with the camera. I miss stopping by here. Good food for the soul! Hope all is well :)
ReplyDeleteI am SO jealous that you can find a Goldfinch holding still!
ReplyDeleteWe only see them during migration and the only ones I find are always on the move - away from ME!
Very nice photographs, Gail!
I love goldfinches and look forward to their return every spring. You've certainly captured them beautifully.
ReplyDeleteMy IL's have a little fountain in their backyard that the finches love to take showers in! Guess one of these days I need to park my rear and try to get some photos!
ReplyDeleteCheck out all of the empty shells.. Guessing there are some happy birds around....
ReplyDeleteI need sunshine!! I agree....if only the weather would permit me to get outside with my camera, I could sure be a lot happier...Maybe it will this coming week...
Enjoy Spring Break Week...
Their colours are subtle but still lovely in these photos.
ReplyDeleteYour photos always make the birds feeling so great.
ReplyDeleteStunning is the American goldfinch. With us he is a different color, but this is really wonderful to see. In addition, your photos beautifully clear and sharp :-)
ReplyDeleteI love to see the goldfinch as they change to their summer colors, up here in the north, such a wonderful sign of spring.
ReplyDeleteThose are lovely portraits of the A. goldfinch, Gail. I like the last photo most of all, with the beak partly open. :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say, I really like these colors. There's almost a hint of robins egg blue in the coat and it's such a subtle and soothing combination with the brown.
ReplyDeleteSnap-tastic!
ReplyDeleteColours can be so uplifting.
The bluebonnet swamp must be an amazing place. I hope I get a chance to visit this year. Lovely photos, again.
ReplyDeleteI have two thistle hanging baskets in trying to attract the goldfinch. They occasionally fly by!! LOVE golden-finch and blue birds!! Have another feeder with sunflower seeds and seeds - which I see your's are eating!!
ReplyDeletewonderful up close shots!
Really beautiful weather and clear pictures of this Goldfinch.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to see.
