Sunsets

Here are some sunsets I attempted throughout the summer.
July 6, 2013 - Allen, Texas
How I miss Texas sunsets! I spotted this one while shopping in Allen one evening; it reminded me of a tequila sunrise.
I drove around like a mad woman looking for a clear shot to no avail. At first I hated the power lines, but the more I
looked at it, the more I liked it.  Definitely adds an interesting graphical element.

August 3, 2013 - Lake Martin

August 4, 2013 - Port of Baton Rouge

Same as above
Most of these were shot with an aperture of f/16, using a tripod, of course. Unfortunately, when I got them on the computer it revealed horrible dust spots on my sensor. I must've cloned out over one hundred spots! So happy my local camera shop, Kadair's, was able to clean it right there in the store. I had read awhile back that the push/pull zooming mechanism on the 100-400mm lens could cause this problem. Whenever I use that lens now, I make sure I have it fully extended before I even mount it. I am also super careful during the change process. I'm like a lens changing Ninja now. So far, so good; it's been a month and I haven't seen one speck.

  4. They're all gorgeous, but Lake Martin--ahhhh!

Thanks for the Like, Gail. I've got until the end of the month before Rachel can format A-Z so am continually going over it, hoping to get the right balance. Soooo much history, soooo many tidbits. But fun to dig into.

  8. Each of these is beautiful, but if I were to pick a favourite it would be the lake Martin one. I heard too that the push-pull lens could result in dust spots, but have not had trouble with it. The up-side for me is that I have two camera bodies and the telephoto lens stays on one camera.

  14. Gorgeous sunsets, Gail! I also can appreciate the power lines - very graphic. I'm not sure what you mean about the lens... why does dirt get in if it isn't fully extended? I can understand the changing part - I'm a Ninja there too!

  15. These are awesome...love them all but if you made me choose one, I'd choose the second one, Lake Martin!

  16. Great two-tone sun in the first one! The second and third are my favorites...gorgeous!

You can get sensor cleaning kits that are easy to use. I had to clean mine once and it worked perfectly.

  17. Oh my! I have NEVER seen the sun looking like it did in the Allen, Texas shot. It reminds me of the logo for one of those motel chains. But I didn't know such a thing existed in real life. :)

The yellow sunset was also something that I don't think I've ever seen before. These are so wonderful!

    I'm guessing they were pre-macro. :)

  30. Nice pictures - dust specks are such a pain - I had not heard of the zoom lens issue - I just assumed I was messy!

  31. Absolutely stunning! Be assured that I am somewhat embarrassed about not being able to do more than merely repeat what most of the others have said, but in all fairness, I am quite stunned at this time!
