My friend and I went to visit the horses as planned this past weekend. She called beforehand and suggested I wear boots because of all the recent rain. I showered, styled my hair, put my make-up on, and dressed sensibly. I and my camera gear were ready!
As we entered the first set of stalls, my hair and make-up quickly bid adios. Why did I even bother? Within 15 minutes I was soaked to the bone. Rubber boots + camera + tripod + camera accessories = HORROR. As in: I looked a fright! I don't know what's worse: 110° and 20% humidity or 95° and 95% humidity. One's a furnace and one's a sauna. Both make for very unpleasant conditions, bringing me to my knees, begging for fall to hurry and get here. If there was a way to bribe fall into an earlier appearance, I'd gladly pay.
We had a really good time. My friend is so funny and fun to be with. I wish my photos had been better, but I was too wiped out by the heat to worry much about it.
BMW update: The cam shaft sensor (whatever the heck that is!) is faulty. My service guy is going to see what he can do to lower the $503 price tag. Cha-ching!

ReplyDeleteGood looking horses! I'm with you 100% on the heat. I am not a hot weather person and I overheat quickly. I much prefer fall, winter, spring temps. Glad you got to spend time with your friend! Sorry about the car, though.
ReplyDeletebeautiful horses. i've been giving mine electrolyte supplements this week as we've climbed above 100 again. thankfully our humidity dropped a bit or they'd be a sweaty mess. :)

Well, your pictures are marvelous as usual. I've determined that summertime is not a great time for photography in East Texas/Louisiana. I keep telling people that it's hotter here than in Phoenix where I used to live. They don't believe me. But when it's 115 and the humidity is 10 percent, you don't even sweat! That's the difference!
ReplyDeleteSheesh, you've had a time with that car. They keep getting fancier and more expensive to repair. Our mechanic is a genius--scary smart kind of guy--and he can't work on some things. Whew. Lovely pictures. I was there with you in spirit, dripping sweat, smelling the warm arouma, and fighting off flies. :) Great photos just the same--and great memories with a friend.

ReplyDeleteNormally I'd take the heat over humidity (and I don't have any problems with temperatures 100 F and over), but now I really would take both as the weather here seems to have totally skipped summer...

I love warm weather, but high humidity just sucks the joy out.

Oh how I love horses and despite the intense heat, you've certainly captured some wonderful shots. I think the one where the horse is accepting the carrot is my favourite.
