Along the road are signs that say DO NOT PICK UP HITCHHIKERS. PRISON AREA. Nowhere are signs saying NO PHOTOGRAPHS.
So one beautiful day on my way to Bayou Belles' booth, I tried to take pictures with my iPhone through my windshield. It is a pretty drive and I wanted to share that with you all. (Sorry for the crack in my windshield and bug guts, but if you live in Louisiana, you're going to have that. It's a given).
The road is curvy and I was having trouble driving straight and getting a decent pic, so I pulled off on the side of the road to photograph a huge pasture of cows across from DCI. There was also a nice gate and I was thinking that I could finally link up with TexWisGirl's Good Fences meme. Yay me!
I was in perfect bliss with my phone when suddenly I was startled by a man yelling. "YOU CAIN'T BE TAKIN' NO PICTURES 'ROUND HERE!!! THIS BE A PRISON AREA."
Ooops. :) Photography is always getting me in trouble. At least I haven't been thrown in jail. YET! I made my apologies and skedaddled, praying he wouldn't follow me.

Oh my such glorious scenery!!!
ReplyDeleteI got myself into trouble once...just like you did...only I was taking photos of a huge high bridge just after 9-11 and 'got caught' not knowing I couldn't take photos of the 'underside' of a bridge...against the law. Well, news to me!!!
You Rebel!! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous views and scenery. I love the cattle on the pasture. I am glad you did not see inside the prison, who knew no photos are allowed. Enjoy your day and the week ahead!
ReplyDeleteze zouden dit wel goed gevonden hebben.
ReplyDeleteWe'd need fewer prisons if we had fewer rules, huh? *wink*
ReplyDeletePeople are silly when it comes to cameras. Were they inmate cows?
ReplyDeleteMy camera got me in trouble at a max prison in WV. I swore to the officers I wasn't on prison ground to get a date, but they still refused to let me photograph the wild turkeys or the deer, who were coming out of the woods. Instead they suggested I call so-and-so and make arrangements to tour the prison.
ReplyDeleteWas there a human form to accompany the voice? Or does God have a Louisiana accent? :)
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, Gail. Great pictures, but your story is at least as good as your pics. Be careful there! We don't want you in prison. Greetings, Joke
ReplyDeleteLovely scenic sights!
ReplyDeletelovin' the gate and the cattle. glad you weren't busted! :) thanks, gail.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenery Love the gate, fencing and the cows.
ReplyDeleteWow... interesting story!)) your shots are worth it...
ReplyDeleteLovely views

This one's a knee slapper to be sure, Gail! As soon as I read the first line of your post my mind was going in a thousand directions, lol! What a nice drive you have into the shop! Stay safe out there!
ReplyDeleteLol.... I did have a chuckle reading this. I would have probably wet my pants. You are a brave soul. I usually put my foot to the metal when I go through areas like this. I'm a fraidy cat.
ReplyDeleteYou are such a rebel! Nice place for prison.
ReplyDeleteI am sure glad you got these great pictures before you were yelled at.
ReplyDeleteSuccessful shots - the good kind! Who knew? Now you do. Keep on shooting! (not there)
ReplyDeleteNice gate. Are those prison cattle?
ReplyDeleteYou're such a rabble rouser, Gail! After looking at these pics, if I ever need to go to prison for any reason, I'm going to request DCI (but not before stopping at the Bayou Belles' booth!!).
ReplyDeleteThat's one of the best roads I've seen in Louisiana. When I drive from here to Shreveport through rural Western Louisiana I always feel like my teeth are loose when I get to my destination! I guess being near the state capitol there are more tax dollars.
ReplyDeleteI have been hollered at in soooo many places I've lost count. I have also heard several time "this is not a petting zoo"!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a beautiful place!!
I am glad you will not be spending time inside the DCI walls. Good thing you skedaddled.
ReplyDeleteHi Gail,
ReplyDeleteNice picture with beautiful views.
Interesting story, fortunately ended well, you're not in jail.
Best regards, Irma
The scenery is lovely!
ReplyDeleteYay for you getting your pictures and I am so glad they didn't throw you in the klink ;)
ReplyDeleteNun bin ich endlich auch mal wieder auf deiner Seite und verschlinge deine Fotos. Eine andere Gegend kennenzulernen, interessiert mich brennend. Danke für die schönen Fotos und liebe Grüße

Cameras can get you into trouble. Haven't these people heard of bloggers? We got into trouble for photographing a train pulling into our local station. Go figure.
ReplyDeleteLovely scenery and glad you were able to show it from the outside, Gail, as DCI doesn't sound like an inviting place.
ReplyDeleteHehe--sounds like you earned those photos!
ReplyDeleteGlad you were not wearing your neon orange jumpsuit on the way to a July costume party or you may have got to see more of the facility than you wanted.
Enjoy your 4th!
Nice photos. The man would have scared me out of my wits.
ReplyDeleteNveer a dull moment out searching for blog shots.
ReplyDeleteLOL! Well, I guess he told you! The only time I was asked to put my camera away was in a shopping mall near Boston. I was told it was for security reasons. Of course, this was right after 9/11 and I think everyone was paranoid -- even more than they are now.
ReplyDeleteThe lengths we go through for a good fence shot! - You did a fine job showing these fences off even though you were busted. We have the State Pen. here in our town and I once stopped to take photos out on the road near where it's located and just like you I was asked to quickly...move along.
ReplyDeleteWell my mother used to say 'learn something new everyday.' Who would 'a' thought? You did get some great shots anyway. Thanks for sharing your shots and your story.
ReplyDeleteJust think if you had been throw in the slammer, we would not have seen these great shots!!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty area! Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeletehappy Fourth of July!
xoxo
Photography always brings us surprises.
ReplyDeleteEither in the process or in the result.
Beautiful shots of the fences, and I love the sky! Glad you're staying out of jail. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely funny! At least he let you keep the camera and pictures (and pretty darn good ones they are too). I wonder if you could have played your last name card: "Officer, this prison was named after my family ..."
ReplyDeleteGlad that you "skedaddled" and you remain on this side of the DCI fence :-}}}
ReplyDelete(haven't heard that word in years!!!! Thank you Gail!!)
What a beautiful part of thecUS. I have been yelled at a few times myself when I have been taking photos...and a few people, when I explained what I was doing, apologized. What a world we live in.
