Baby Blues

On the last day of May we drove to Lake Martin, taking my youngest son with us. Below are the little blue heron youngsters. Not sure of their age, but certainly old enough to start foraging for themselves. Notice the green legs and blue feathering on the rump; these are indicative of the juvenile little blue heron.

  21. White Blue Herons? Here, they are gray (with a little blue, perhaps?)...not nearly as exotic looking as yours!

  23. I would have had absolutely no idea that this was a baby blue" had I seen it in person. (Right there is the difference between an amateur and a professional birder like yourself!). Wonderful pictures.

  28. Wow!!! GORGEOUS pictures of blue heron♡♡♡ I still cannot differentiate heron from egret(^^;) I think it's amazing they can perch trees with these thin legs like photographic :)
