Peppy

Tex's Fence meme has been on my mind quite a bit lately. I've never really made fences a main subject in photography, but needing something to kick my mojo into gear, I decided to give it a try. On April 1st I drove out to the cemetery to put new flowers on my mother's and sister's graves. Afterwards, I drove along River Road desperately searching for the perfect fence. There are several places in the road where I left skid marks and some places where I simply did not feel safe to stop. The cars whizzing by at 80mph could have easily put me in the morgue. I stood in some pretty tall weeds for some shots, risking ticks, cows staring at me with their goofy faces. You'd think after all that I'd have something better to show for it. I was hoping for a fence with a bird on it or a really spectacular, awesome design. Since that didn't happen I used a butterfly image I found on Flickr years ago by Angela Wolf. He's my go-to image to pep up an otherwise boring image. Meet Peppy. You might be seeing more of him if my mojo fails to return.

Thanks TexWisGirl for hosting the meme!!

  8. Love the fence! Peppy is a nice addition, but the shot is wonderful on it's own. Hope you didn't get any ticks.

  11. I would never, as a totally inexperienced photographer, thought of taking a picture of that fence. Yet the scene is very beautiful.

  17. Oh your Mojo is on the way back anyway, but if Peppy helps more power to him (or her).....I think your fence picture is interesting anyway. Be careful of those ticks and other stuff lurking in those high weeds (here it would be fire ants -- I barely escaped a nest of those the other day).

  22. Nice image!

    If I don't come home with ticks, I don't feel like I had a successful outing! :)

  23. I like Peppy! But I like the simple board fence too.

I've been noticing fences lately, too, though I didn't join the meme this week. I've seen some that will require some parking on the side of the road too. :-)

  25. He does pep up the photo. And I know what you mean about the photo shoot thing. Some days it's just not there. Very uneven how the photo ops come I think. Take care along the roadside. As a fellow roadside photographer, I often have the same issue.

  28. That's a very creative idea, I look forward to seeing other images with Peppy on board. You took a great fence photo here. I too am trying to open my horizons to fences as I haven't thought of focusing on them too much before. Like you this meme is broadening my horizons. Have a great weekend :)

  34. Peppy is like a ring.. or a hair clip.. or something similarly sparkly which offers a finishing touch. I can almost see you sneaking him into at least one photo per post, as a challenge to "Spot Peppy!"

  35. Peppy! ;) Don't you just hate when you see something wonderful to photograph and you just can't stop, or get there, or jump a wide creek, lol!

  36. You are soooo clever, Gail! Peppy works for me. :)

  37. Oh girl....you've got me right here. I love me some fences!! All kinds of fences. However....you are much braver than me, as I don't do tall weeds or tall grass! I'm too much of a chicken... Too {skeered} of varmints.
    Great photo!!

  39. Very clever of you to pep up a fence!

  40. Peppy does add a little something to the image, but the photo could stand on its own. Anyway, I had to smile at the risks you took to get the shot.

  41. You sure pepped up that fence, but it would be OK too without peppy popping in!
