Fall Cleaning - Photo Style

For whatever reason, some of my images never made it to my blog. I went through all my photos from the first three months of this year and had a big ol' Delete Party. It feels good to lighten the load and make more room on my hard drive. I'll be doing more of that as time allows.
Bald Eagle landing - 2/3/13. Looks like he's wearing a white skirt.

iPhone shot of levee where eagles were observed - 2/5/13

A pod of pelicans - LSU Lakes - 2/13/13

Green heron - LSU Lakes - 2/24/13

Lilacs Wisteria- Avery Island - 3/16/13
Thanks for the correction, Anni! I always get lilacs and wisteria confused. :/

Nesting egrets - Avery Island - 3/26/13

Egrets in breeding plumage - Avery Island - 3/26/13

iPhone shot of breeding platforms - Avery Island - 3/26/13
The green area is algae

iPhone shot of Trees and Trails nature area at Burden Center - 3/19/13
Carrying heavy camera equipment over this narrow boardwalk sans railings was a bit scary.
I was more worried about damaging my camera equipment then getting devoured by alligators.

iPhone shot of azaleas - same location as above - 3/19/13

Izzy wanted to say "HI!"
Basking in the sunshine - 3/29/13
Linking to Skywatch Friday. Thanks, hosts!

  4. I agree with Buttons....National Geo knows not what they miss!!! Phenomenal.

And the lilacs? I think it's wisteria instead. Looks like wisteria.

  5. Fabulous shots! I love that bald eagle in flight!

  6. Oh my. The green heron shot is my absolute favorite of this bunch. The snowy egret shots are amazing, too. And I love the "skirt" on the eagle. Don't you wonder who was willing to wade into that swamp to build the breeding platforms and the walkway for photographers? Yikes! I'd be looking for another way to make a living.

  7. loved them all. i like doing a photo dump every now and then - and even better, i like feeling 'lighter' after doing it. :)

  8. The bald eagle is like a dancer with white skirt.

  12. My sister lives in Prairieville, having moved there from Baton Rouge where she lived for 40 years, to live with her son and his wife. I have visited her many times, and taken many photos, but have to say you got some really great shots of Avery Island. If only the green algae would go away. Dianne

  13. I LOVE the bird photos...."pod of pelicans" is great! The "skirt" of the Bald Eagle is a winner, too. Yesterday, I saw a Golden Eagle but he flew right over the car and to a tree too far away for my lens. They are much larger than Bald Eagles...very impressive! Wonderful Louisiana images, Gail.

  15. Great photos, Gail. I like how you mix iPhone and DSLR photography. Just be careful what you delete... you never know what you might need later!

  16. Great photos Gail! I see you started off with an Eagle, my fave!!!!

Baby Z is doing well. He is alert and reacting like a baby should as if that first traumatic week hadn't happened. I still haven't held him or seen him because they can't have any outsiders in the home yet. And I have had a cold but it is gone. I have plans to see him on Sunday. Yay!!!

Thank you, Gail for your sweet prayers and hopes in his behalf. I sincerely appreciate it so much. I am so glad you are blogging again and you were here when I needed you!!!!!♥!!!♥!!!♥

  18. These are all lovely images, Gail! The birds are just fantastic. I have never seen a breeding platform like this. Only small platforms for the Ospreys. Izzy is a cutie! Have a happy weekend!

  27. Great set of pictures - being eaten by crocs when I was up north was a possibility - but at least there were rails on the boardwalks!

  29. A pod of pelicans, never heard that before, the plural name for animals is often fascinating... you pic of them sunning themselves is wonderful!

  30. What a fun collection.. particularly that last shot. Too cute. I do a clear out every now and then, also. You hate to miss out on sharing some photos that never fit in with any other post, so it's a good way to publish them.

  31. Oh these are super shots. Why did I get the dumb iphone that takes horrible photos? Yours are fantastic!

  32. I'm a hoarder, but even I must admit that a photo dump is a good idea once in awhile. I'm really glad you didn't toss these shots though; they're all so great. It's fun to see the levee where you did some bird watching--the place is kinda surreal.

  33. The pictures are splendid Gail and I am so glad they made their way from your hard drive to your blog . The first picture made me smile.. eagle wearing a white skirt! Hehehe :D

A big hi to Izzy as well :)

  34. oh my goodness...that pod of pelicans is so beautiful & Izzy... lol..Gracie does that too. Too cute!

  35. I love the pelicans especially!

FYI: I inadvertently lightened my load a few weeks ago by dripping my external hard drive onto the floor. Many of my photos from January through September are GONE! Well, I could pay between $1200 and $1500 and MAYBE retrieve some of them. But that's not going to happen. Fortunately I had saved some of my favourite photos...but not all of them. I was pretty annoyed with myself!

By the way, what lens do you use when you shoot birds? I have a Canon too and I think I "need" a new lens.
