Sunday afternoon

My sweet friend went with me today to Hoo Shoo Too Rd. It was a beautiful day, much too gorgeous to remain indoors. She needed practice with Mabel (my old 50D) and I needed to spend time with my new baby, who has yet to be named. We've had a bit of wind lately and I was afraid that all the leaves might have blown away since my last visit. There were a few less leaves, yes, but the orange tones were deeper, making up for the loss. Come see what I mean.
Minimal editing, just a very, very slight increase in saturation and levels adjustment in PS, but that's pretty much it.
Not meant to brag, but the 5D Mark II has made editing so much easier.
Mabel and Michelle
I couldn't decide on the color or b&w version, so you get both.
Personally, I prefer the b&w.

An old A&P sign tucked behind one of the campsites.
Chained up dobermans growled and barked while I quickly took this shot which I missed on the previous visit.
While I hate seeing any dog chained up, I was praying that these particular chains would hold.
I also missed this old houseboat last time.
I kept coming back to this scene. I couldn't help it.

Meet Kevin. He was very pleased with his catch and happily posed for us.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. As for me, I've been feeling very drained, physically and mentally. I forced myself to decorate the house on Friday, finding a few things that were damaged during the move, and a favorite harp ornament that I broke while decorating the tree. Probably should have waited until I felt better. On Saturday, I shopped 'til I dropped, with a blister on my foot to prove it. We are now off to eat at our favorite restaurant, The Chimes, so I will be back later tonight to see what you all have been up to. Laissez les bon temp, rouler!

  11. These are wonderful, Gail!
I especially love the reflection in the first one, and the houseboat is simply perfect. I wonder what the inside of it looks like.
Wishing you a wonderful beginning to your week!

  12. These are just wonderful, Gail. The fall foliage, the reflections, the Spanish moss, and Kevin and his catch made for some beautiful photos. Tell me, though...are there any alligators in those waters? You know, up here in Indiana, we think Louisiana is full of alligators. :)

  13. The black and white is my favorite as well.
Kevin is, if not already, going to make a fine husband for some woman. Provide and protect...well done!

  30. Wow, Gail, haven't stopped by your blog in a while and it's my loss! Your photography is getting really amazing... the light on the spanish moss and the reflections... I could go on, but so many great photos. Too funny how you name your cameras. Let me know what you come up with for your new baby. I have the same camera (no name yet).

  31. OMG, everything is spectacular! Your new baby is so wonderful, I know it means a big sum too! Even without the camera your area is so awesome, that if i will be there i will put down the camera and just sink everything in my brain, and i will just enjoy the now!

  35. Hoo Shoo Too??? That is some name isn't it? Looks like your part of the country is painted just as gorgeous as ours is this year. Outstanding colors! With all the gators that hang around in your neck of the woods, you would never see me in such a small canoe, fishing! Guess the gators are dormant right now? Wish I lived close enough...I'd gladly welcome your expertise talents in knowing how to use a camera...
Have fun today...stay warm...it's cool here.

  37. These are beautiful! I am missing all the fall colors as we don't get them much over here in Thailand.

  38. Gail, Your colour captures there are outstanding and amazing. That new camera obviously does the trick but it still needs a good eye to spot the opportunity and frame the shot.

  39. Great shots.. I love that boathouse and I absolutely love that you named your camera. Unfortunately, a couple of the photos won't fully load for me.. darn.

  40. I had to use the translator on that last sentence, but I just had to know what you said, too... Let the good temp roll? Mornings have been pretty dog-gone cold here, but it warms up nicely during the day.

Beautiful, vibrant colors! And, I think I prefer the b&w, too, of Mabel & Michelle... it's less distracting & lets the viewer focus more on the subject. I also really like how the b&w isn't dark, it's very light... I love b&w's like that!
