Bluer Than Blue

This indigo bunting is a 1st or 2nd year male in the molting stage. Ornithologists spread the wing feathers out and study them in minute detail, observing colors (or lack thereof) and patterns. It's all too complicated for me, so I will just enjoy them at whatever stage of life they're in. :)

Linking with Wild Bird Wednesday. Sorry I'm a little late.

Wishing a wonderful weekend to you all!!

  4. Oh, "Bluer Than Blue"! I remembered the first time I saw your indigo burning (left striking image in mind) and scrolled down to April 30. Yes, this one looks a little younger and not all bluish. But still has very vivid color and really adorable♡♡♡

  40. As you know, I'm always impressed by your birds of blue! I must tell you that I saw a blue bird (not a bluebird, either) on the seed feeder that none of "my" birds have figured out....I studied it as well as I could, but just couldn't get a good shot of it. However, I got out my trusty bird book and discovered it was a Lazuli Bunting. I don't ever recall seeing one before. It was a male and another male came to the feeder but was chased away by the first. They haven't returned since, but it was so exciting.

  41. You've met a real character, Gail, and your photos are beautiful. :)

It looks as if the blue colour was peeling off its feathers, how enchanting it must be when the molting stage is over. I had a look at its Czech name and read that indigo bunting males designate their territory by a unique song of their own, it's interesting.
