At the end of December I came across what I thought was some sort of sparrow, maybe the Savannah. But after doing research online and in my trusty Stokes Field Guide, I determined it was the American Pipit. He/she perched on boulders near the water and ran in quick, spastic movements on the muddy ground, head up and attentive, as though looking for someone. The American Pipit's diet is insects and seeds. During winter and migration, they are often found on coastal beaches and marshes, which is precisely where I found this little cutie in Madisonville, LA at the mouth of the Tchefuncte River.
Thank you, Autumn, for my early Christmas present! And for the sweet blogger who found them for me at Target. You know who you are! After I tweeted a photo and link to them, my darling daughter jumped right on it. Not only did these come in handy as I tromped through the mud, I looked rather fashionable doing so! These also fit better than any rubber boots I've had before. They're my new favorite fashion/photography accessory!
I believe in love at first sight...because I'm a mom.
