Mostly Macros

Still cleaning out my hard drive. I plan to take as many photos in 2014 (Lord willing) and my Mac is getting a little full—kinda like me on Thanksgiving Day. Time to purge and make room! Photos taken in July and August, 2013.

This bottle fly is either eating something or about to deposit an egg sac.

Is this an immature grackle? Not sure.

Assassin bug eating a bottle fly.

Mealybug. Cute like a poodle, but deadly for plants. :/

    Is that first one a common housefly? Amazing detail. And the colors in the bottle fly...who knew? Even with my dislike of all spiders, and especially the jumping kind, I can still appreciate the great shot of that little guy. But don't do it again. :)

    Wow! These bugs are some of the more colorful ones I have ever seen! Super detail!The caterpillar is not a monarch, but I am not sure what it is...I too am cleaning out my files....they add up quickly!

    You are the queen of macros for sure. There's so much detail and clarity in these bug shots. The bird is absolutely a grack. If he stuck his tongue out at you, I'd say he's also immature. ;)

    Once more great photos….Love them all, but the flies and mealy bug. The only good fly or mealy bug is a dead one. Is that Assassin bug native?

    Parsley for the caterpillar…if you plant it they will come (and lay eggs). Dianne

    I'm a week behind!!
    Aren't flies amazing!! I don't like them - but they are amazing!! We have observed them under the microscope in class and the hairs they have that stick out and the veins in their wings!
    I do like the assassin bug for eating the fly!! Interesting mealybug!! Is this the insect that leaves the powder behind and when I see them on a leaf, I try to to squish it??? And they hop off?? Interesting up close!
    You always take amazing photos!! Neat 4 eyed spider and the caterpillar looks like a soft leather sofa that you could sink into!! Great shots!!
