Geaux Tigers!

So here are the photos from our long, wild day. Be sure and read the final paragraphs below and let me know your thoughts. :)

Great Dane painted like Mike The Tiger. Wish I could've gotten a better shot, but I saw him pass by too late.

Another quickie resulting in a blurry shot, but you get the idea.

After the tailgate party, my friends talked me into going to a college bar with them. Really, I had no choice since they were my ride. :/ Our group included two girls in their 20s and three of us in our 50s. I almost wish I had been drinking to lessen the impact of the antics I witnessed. College boys have become much bolder since the 70s & 80s. Tattooed butt cheeks and ripped shorts exposing underwear were highlights of the evening, as were vulgar language and mimicking certain "activities"--a demonstration to us Cougars what we're missing. Not!

Listen to me, I sound like the old person I've apparently become! Being inebriated would've lessened the impact assaulting my senses, but I chose not to go there, and although I probably appeared like an uptight granny, I didn't do anything that went against my principles. Well, I might have let go a chuckle here and there. My friends are quite fun and funny.

I did pray for the boys and myself the next morning like a good Catholic. Don't get me wrong, the tailgate party was a lot of fun and I'm glad we were included, but I'm SO over the whole bar scene. Have you ever been placed in an uncomfortable situation like that? Inquiring minds want to know. Hee.

  1. Great shots! I've gone to some UT games, but never experienced the whole tailgate thing. I went to Austin's 6th Street a few years ago, but I was with a bunch of other old 50+er's, so we were just spectators. However several years ago on one of my girls' weekends at the coast, we went to this little bar and were having a great time dancing to some oldies, when suddenly the music changed, became really raunchy, and a whole new crowd filled the floor. It was way too much for me - we made a quick exit!!! Guess that means I'm old, too, but actually, I don't think I would ever have enjoyed that!

  3. Oh, I am laughing after reading this post, Gail! Big universities have big parties, I see. I've never been to a tailgater, but I've seen images. I do like your purple and gold striped photos! As for hanging with raunchy younger ones---no thanks! Hubby and I went to two bars with our son in Brooklyn in April after dinner with wine. Not a good day for me the next day even though I thought I was being very moderate. And I'm almost 70! Never again.

  4. Oh, I'm with you. I haven't been to a college game in a long, long time (the last one some kid puked whiskey all over during the invocation - yes, we were lucky enough to not be sitting in front of him). Things get raunchier and raunchier every day. I try not to think about it, and stay away. Hence, my morning shots of Printers' Alley. lol

  5. Hmm, well looks like a fun tailgate party, at least in the photographs...great captures. As far as the uncomfortable situation, I had a little one this past weekend at the wedding I attended. There was a very nice looking young man that began flirting with me...he even took my picture with him kissing me on the cheek. I was flattered, but a little uncomfortable. He was probably not much older or about the age of my oldest grandson who is 25.

  6. These photos remind me of when we lived in Auburn, AL, also a home of Tigers: football brings out the craziness big-time. I would NEVER want to go to a college bar after a game! I'm no prude, but I just hate that kind of stuff.

However I do think that's a very classy job of painting a Great Dane.

  7. Gail,
You really captured the excitement of the game day and tailgating.

I am like you. I would have been very uncomfortable in a bar with people acting out like that.
I learned a long time ago to always take my own car. I have been stuck before.

  8. 12 years of Catholic school I can tell you in m day I was never aloud to get into the bar scene! Got married and had kids right away after college! Now that I am retired I have recently entered the bar scene but it is usually very controlled. "Older folk having cocktails."
So I guess I missed that whole fun part of my life. I have been to several of Jimmy Buffet before concert parties! OMG what fun. Naughty me!!!
Great captures Gail! I'm so glad you were able to let loose!

    and the bubbles
sports can be so much fun

my bar days are long gone as well
funny how things aren't so amusing when you're sober
I don't regret the wild days though
    only young and foolish once

  10. Your photographs caught the spirit of the day. I love going out with the younger generation as an observer. They are so full of energy and it’s contagious for lifting one’s spirit if not this old body. Thanks for sharing a beautiful day.

  13. Oh Goodness Gracious Gail,
In my previous marriage, my X graduated from Univ. of GA and he had season tickets. I could care less about football but enjoyed watching the clothes, crazyness and especially keeping up with UGA. It certainly is a show!! Love the little boy w/ with the horn. Once a year would be fine - but every home game was a bit much!! Guess you had your belly fill - We never got into the bars - there was plenty of stuff going on outside!!

  14. I wish I could have held on longer, but unfortunately the desire to be involved in those types of scenes slowly fades the older we get. Although, I do have to admit a few weeks ago I went dancing and was extremely surprised at how well I did and how long I lasted on the dance floor dancing to the likes of Michael Jackson!

  15. Gail,
I spend the better part of my weekdays with college students. Of course I am in a classroom where they are probably on their best behavior! :-) I also don't embarrass easily, but I do understand how this could make someone uncomfortable.
    xo.

  16. Colorful shots. Glad you had some fun even tho society has gone to you know where. I just stay home and watch the degradation on TV...but don't tell anyone!

  18. Loved the images of the LSU loyal fans.

As for the partying...that was never really part of my life. So it has nothing to do with my age. It has more to do with my growing up during an era of morality. It suited me then, and it suits me now. I did a few nightclubs as a young adult, but I can honestly say that I never really enjoyed it. As for vulgar language and gestures...I just don't see the point. These are the people who will grow up to be the parent who wears jewelry that can double as a lethal weapon and who ignores a precious child at a football game...and probably the rest of the time, too.

See what you've done...you've made me rant. :)

  19. The painted dog is funny! There used to be a Marsupial Wolf / Tiger that looked just like that - but it became extinct in the 1930's.

I thought my flamingos would have been pinker as well - but (apparently) its the Lesser Flamingo that are bright pink. And mine is also a young bird - which means its even less pink.

  20. I thought my 1960s college days were pretty raunchy. I was an Oklahoma Sooner and of course our big football weekend was the OU/Texas classic annual rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. I can't imagine what that would be like these days.

  21. I love the bubble photo Gail. I doubt you are really an uptight granny, just older and wiser about life, with no need to behave like that! :)

  22. Beautiful photos. I'm with you about the bar scene and the differences between how things were when we were younger and how they are now....huge changes...I often find myself wondering just how did that happen. PS. Hope the bomb scare on the LSU campus this week turned out to be nothing.

  23. I can't imagine what goes on in the bars right now! It seems like anything goes these days.

    Love the pictures!

  24. Those look like some pretty dedicated fans. Looks like everyone was having a good time. I really enjoyed seeing your photos.

    Hugs~

  25. Great photos Gail. I wondered if the young boy was really playing that trumpet? OK about the bar scene. I think (I hope) we get more sensible as we get older - right? :-) - Dave

  26. Love the striped dog. It's not that you're old, it's that you're a mother with a son. :D Our son is at Auburn and is not looking forward to this weekend's game against LSU--he may come home. But it sounds like everyone is gearing up for a party. The tailgating should be fun.

  27. Wild party! Those fish out of water situations do happen once in a while. Glad you survived ;>)....meant to say on your earlier post that I was sad reading about that neglectful mother -- I never know what to do in that kind of situation; anything you say would undoubtedly make things worse for the child and for yourself.
